Celia O'Hagan, School of Education, University of Ulster

The Needs Focused behaviour management workshops in support of teacher training in Northern Ireland have been very well received and the ideas, strategies and routines shared with our teachers have led to improved classroom practice. This has been validated by both inspections at the University and observations of classroom management for teachers. We thank you for all your hard work and thoughtful teaching.

Nina Plapp, London course attendee April 2008

Your course was brilliant and your presentation of it was amazing. Brilliant because the content of the course contained everything we needed to be brilliant teachers, and amazing, because you have the ability to make amazing transformations in those you teach.

S. Dickson

I felt compelled to email you and tell you that I think this is absolutely brilliant and I thank you. I teach in a challenging Secondary school and those words 'I can't' ring in my ears every period of every day! I understand that the pupils have low self-esteem and genuinely think that they can't but when you have to produce results for them at the end of term, it does bring out my worst side because I do get stressed. I always believe that a bit of humour is the way: but when stressed my sense of humour and good nature towards the pupils deserts me! That is why, for me, your emails keep me sane: because of the humour involved and they work. Learning should always be fun and you help me to always remember that when I lose my way a little. Thank you again and keep up the good work because you and your team are very much appreciated.

Helen Waddington, Needs Focused Lessons Customer

Thanks for this course I have to say there are some fantastic things in there. You may be interested to know that we had a monitoring and improvement team visit (like a pre ofsted) 2 weeks before Christmas. I have been "lucky" enough to go through these before in 2 schools under a category, and have struggled with behavioural problems getting me unsatisfactory reports when I had previously had outstanding and good before the dreaded bsf programme changed schools..... and..... I got outstanding and absolutely floored the inspector (who was one who previously rated me unsatisfactory!) thank you so much for just the motivation to keep going and to do well your advice has been inspirational and reminded me of who i am! The resources you are providing are outstanding themselves and just what is needed to help teachers like myself who have felt low due to lack of available training during tight budget times in schools! I am proud to recommend your course to my colleagues and friends.

Dr Chris Botton, University of Hull

This workshop is something not to be missed. Rob delivers the informed workshop with great panache, the entertainment is splendid and the essential messages will not be forgotten.

Dee Emeigh Delaware

Hello Rob - I have to be bold and tell you the truth. Finding your website has been an answered prayer. After earning a dual M Ed in Reading Education and TESOL literacy, I have just finished my first semester in a public school. My students are 1-3 years below grade level in reading, and by 9th grade they have acquired a lot of extra baggage, not to mention ADHD, emotionally disturbed, LD issues. I was able to bring things around a quite a bit, but still had a few nagging issues, and your website gave me the answers. I was looking for a "survey" to conduct with the new group on the first day of class. AND HERE IT IS! I can't thank you enough! Another prayer answered!

John Barnetson

Busy reading through the magic classroom ebook. So far, fantastic, some really helpful stuff in there that I am going to experiment with.

Hazel Loughran, Distance Learning Customer

Thanks you so much, by following what you have already proved to work, I am now asked on a regular basis to cover the teacher in year 6, who earned themselves the title "The Class From Hell" especially when they have someone other than their regular teacher. You will be pleased to know that nick name is a thing of the past thanks to your inspiration .

Rudolf Weiler, KVC Business School, Zurich

I would like to thank you for all the good ideas and tips you so readily share with subscribers and customers. I am going to order some of your books for our school: KVZ Business School Zurich, where the going is tough sometimes... i have been teaching more than 30 years and can only acknowledge that you are dead right with the things you say about classroom management.

John Dougherty, Northern Regional College, Belfast

Fast moving class with lots of stimulus. Hard to believe the time was up. Obtained some good ideas on how to interact better with difficult students. I tried them out and have noticed improvements! Humour within class was great whislt still encouraging learning. Made me aware that praise is a great motivator.

Heather Beames, London course attendee April 2008

I found Rob Plevin's workshop just in time to save me from giving up. It should be compulsory - everybody in teaching should attend a Needs-Focused workshop and meet the man with such a big heart who will make you see the important part you can play in the lives of your most difficult pupils

Cathy Smith

I've been delighted with the information I have received as part of the Needs Focused lessons. Here in the States, we have a similar program called Kagan structures; however, I seem to relate better to how you present the information. Thank you. I've been exceptionally pleased with your presentation of the information. I've been teaching 6th graders for over 10 years and was beginning to wonder if I was too old to continue (hardening of the attitude I think), but you have helped me realize that I could learn some new tricks and stay relevant for a few more years with appropriate training.

Diarmuid Frazer, University of Ulster, Belfast

Hi Rob I must say what an excellent presentation, we were all geared up for a long presentation with powerpoints and a boring presenter who would talk ages and really bore us, but to my disbelief it was brilliant, the practical tasks you set made the time fly. Very interesting and i've passed the word on. Many thanks Rob Nice meeting you.

Nina Plapp

You are making such a significant positive impact on the lives of so many children by changing the attitudes of teachers on the ground floor. How do I know? It's been happening before my very eyes.

Daniel Lind, Paddington Academy

I learned a lot about the steps to take in certain situations. I even came in for the last session when I was supposed to be on paternity leave! Humour and a good laugh made it thoroughly enjoyable. Thanks a lot!

H.B. London course attendee

Thank you for such an inspiring and motivating day - you've quite possibly saved my career!

M.T. Mill Hill Primary School, London

I found the course extremely useful and presented in a lively and informative way. It was a timely reminder for us all. I concur with everything that was said.

S. J. Mill Hill Primary School, London

A fantastic course! Great presentation, very well put together with plenty of humour and some really useful ideas on classroom management.

N. W. Mill Hill Primary School, London

I thought this was a most useful course. I felt the practical suggestions were those which could be adapted for many situations and I particulaarly liked the emphasis given to respect for the pupils and re-modelling. Loved the magic tricks - really made the topic come alive!

Maria Smith, Paddington Academy

The strategies were fantastic and have made me better at my job. This should be a whole school strategy! Thank you.

Mark Williams Science Teacher, North Wales

Excellent course - fun, interactive and very informative - thought provoking!

Laura Williams, Rhyl High School

Course was full of useful info, strategies and techniques I could apply in my teaching - all relevant

R. Randles, Head of English St David's High School

I've been teaching a number of years but this was very useful indeed. I've had an MOT!

Jennifer Rotchell (music teacher, Stopsely High school, Luton)

I found the day very useful and have come away with many new strategies but also some new perspectives to take lessons from. I have already tried some of the ideas especially experimenting with your grouping ideas, directed praise and giving students a sense of belonging. I tried these mainly with year 9s and there was visible positivity from the students. Improvement wise I thought that it would have been nice to have a bit of time at the end just to review what we wanted to get out of the course but I realise that time was against us. Thanks again for an excellent day.

Alan (Ulster University)

Really enjoyed your presentation on Tuesday, I know it will be very useful in the future. Trying to convince my wife that you are needed at her school! Many thanks,

Aileen O'Callaghan Community Leadership Programme Co-ordinator

I was at your lecture in UUJ on Tuesday and I thought your session was brilliant. It would have been good to have done it over the full day. Thanks. Kind Regards

Stacey Lalic

I would just like to say thank you for the Behaviour Management workshop last week. It was extremely useful and informative. You gave lots of practical tips that I could see being very useful throughout this training year and hopefully future career. Your stories and personal examples made it all very real and interesting, Thanks again

Marie Allen (the mouthy blond on your right hand side)

I was at your seminar today and want to tell you that all of us in our group thought it was the best information session we have ever been at and we have a lot of years between us! Thank you so much.

Jillene Haaja (Australia)

Just recently your tip of showing kids with "baggage" support them is sooooo true. I experienced your words in my head about support with a student who was "giving me a hard time" (so to speak). I just kept pushing through, thinking - show support, show respect, show you care, etc. etc. - when deep down I just wanted to say "get out to the principals office" etc. (which I rarely do anyway - but you know what I mean) . It all finally worked after 45 mins of conversation in my group (this was not my classroom work). He didn't want to be there (but by request of parents, his own teacher) it finally worked and he ended the group session on a positive note. But it was your words of let them know you support them. This also worked for me in my class, with a group of 10/11 year old girls who were whining about "boring" so somewhere in your "classroom management book" I was reading about "support" again as well as giving "set choices" our relationship strengthened. I was deep down wanting to get cross with them, but I pushed through and it paid off. I know its the relationship stuff that works, but when a teacher gets busy, its often a short cut, quick fix at the time to be "drastic" but long term it doesn't work. Thanks , sorry about the long email - but I was pretty excited about how this is going. P.S..... I must also add, sorry to go on, but for a while now I have thought seriously about leaving teaching and going into full time counselling as I have been feeling, tired and over classroom teaching. However, I love working with students, my small group work rewards my counselling skills too - your material has enthused me again and given me another kick start. P.S, I got through on the pages, I have now purchased your set of books, which I believe arrives via email and charges me monthly?? It was $32.00 au (approx). A small price to pay for the results I got in one day. (Yes, you can use that one too!) Funny I know a lot of this stuff, but your book and tips, really motivated me to push through (as I said) and not take the easy way out.

Cathy Watkins

To Rob and all at Behaviour Needs.. What an unbelievably wonderful website you have. The tips and suggestions are brilliant and the sense of motivation that I get everytime I receive one of your emails, is fantastic. I wish I had had your website during the 20 years that I taught in South Africa. Although my Year One's were so receptive to gentle discipline and loving motivation, I believe I would have been an even better teacher for having taken your tips. Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to provide this wonderful service. It is greatly appreciated. May you all go from strength to strength. Have an excellent day!

Erin Rhone

I have been receiving your online course on behavior management and the application of your tips has been wonderful! I am already a good disciplinarian and receive excellent scores from my principal, but your tips have added even more. The first time I explained to my students that I would count backwards from ten when I was ready for them to come back from their group work, it worked like magic. I never saw 15 years move so fast to come back to order. No repeating myself, no prodding. It seems like you know the practical answers to classroom needs and I am looking forward to this new set of lessons each week. Your fee for five months seems quite reasonable if your tips are as good as what I have already gotten for free.

David McConway

Hi Rob, I've just had a look through your ebook and think it's brilliant and can't wait to get some of the techniques going! The technique of a record card is one I used last year, but I'd really like to see the version you came up with. It says in the ebook that your version is in the appendices but I can't seem to find it. Is your version available anywhere? Thanks,

Bernadette

These ideas sound good, I will have to try some straight in the first week, as yesterday I was told in my new school where I will do a year's supply, that I have got a nightmare class, Y10s, and within the quite small group there are 5 girls who must be sat as far from eachother as possible. Well, I will look forwad to trying to get a role to the rude, argumentative girl who wants to have a fight every lesson... Any ideas? (Possibly she might be late as well...) I was told sometimes it helps if I just ignore her, but Im not sure how one can do that... But really, I want to look into this situation searching for the positives in that group. And want to make them my best group. So that they feel they are proud of themselves, what they achieved, and hopefully come out of schooling as something that was worth their while. Thanks again for these gresat resources!

Simon

Dear Rob Firstly, I would like to say thank you for the course I attended in Wolverhampton yesterday. There was much food for thought during the day and I felt I took away some useful ideas tfor myself and to work with my colleagues. Thank you. During the course of the day you said we could request copies of the slides you used for the day. Please would you send a set to this address. Secondly, you said you would try and remember the name of the Australian woman who came to your PRU and made such an impact. If her name has come to you, please forward that as well. Lastly, you mentioned bingo template software. I would be grateful for the link. I was glad to be able to hear you. I had come across some of your work on the web and was grateful for the opportunity to hear you at greater length. Your approach seemed to tie-in with what we are trying to achieve in our school, weuse the expression "discipline with dignity" - but I think it has the same roots -Glasser, Dreikurs et al. Regards

Steve Edwards PGCE Business Studies

As a PGCE student it is great to have the opportunity to pick up user-friendly and easily accessible information. The 'Behaviour Needs' course provides exactly that. In a series of amusing, creative, fast-paced sections, Rob Plevin, builds up a staggering amount of practical and thought provoking material on classroom behaviour management. All of which are easily translated back in the classroom. Even if you have never had "the class from hell", there is something here for you and the follow up information from the website is laden with golden nuggets which will give you loads more ideas and interventions

Michael Walker (Trainee Maths Teacher, Dearne High, Sheffield)

Hi Rob, I recently attended your 1-day workshop on behaviour management in Sheffield for Teach First participants and would like to thank you for an amazing session (the best I attended at the institute - including the workshops offered at the national institute in Canterbury) and I have suggested to the organisers that you run a session at the national institute next year. I particularly enjoyed: - The practical hints and tips, which were cleverly delivered to the unsuspecting audience! This really helped me understand and see how the strategies work in practice (I was a cap-wearing sssshhhher by the way!) e.g. bingo where everyone is a winner, ideas for group activities, tips for defusing situations, advice for use of consequences etc. - The discussions around cooperative learning and the pointer towards kagan.com. - The overall enthusiasm and professionalism with which the workshop was delivered. My only criticism was that the workshop was too short (1-day)! I would have happily spent 2-3 days learning in more depth how to deliver behaviour management strategies effectively. I would also like to take you up on your kind offer of resources and support. I will be working at the Dearne High and am starting to pull together some strategies for dealing with disengaged/demotivated children, hence I would really appreciate the material to support my planning!! All the best for the future development of the business and I look forward to attending more of your workshops in the future. Kind regards,

M.A.Sheikh

Thank you for sending me the electronic e book on behaviour management. It has been very useful. I have implemented many of your ideas in my teaching and sure enough they work wonders! The idea of using humour was a great help. This really did break the ice between teacher and pupil relationship.in addition to this the ideaof record cards has been superb. I shall write more to let you know of my progress in the future. Thanks for all the information that you have sent me as it has been really very helpful. Yours faithfully,

Bob Lejkowski

I have been using the tips from the course and it has made my summer school a much more overall enjoyable experience for the first time in 8 years. It can't just be because the students are nicer! Thank you

Deb Philley Special Education Teacher

Dear Rob: Thank you for sharing your knowledge and offering subscriptions to your Behaviour Needs free minicourse and newsletter. It has been very beneficial to me as I just took on a special day class assignment working with emotionally disturbed elementary students this past January. Though I have had experience working with junior high school and high school students at a juvenile detention facility, I am always interested in options to deal with behavioral issues. To answer your question, I would evaluate the options you presented in my preferred order of release: #4, #2, #3 and #1 respectively. I must tell you however, that they all sound beneficial and I wish they were all available for the beginning of the school year (especially when I have my $200.00 budget). My appreciation in valuing us educator's opinions and I hope this helps in your planning release dates. I look forward to each of them.

Aliea

Hi Rob, Thank you too so very much for your invaluable tips on classroom behaviour. Some I had initiated and used in past lessons but with some hesitation, with your demonstration of them has boosted my confidence and I will continue to apply them in the classroom. Secondly, I mostly appreciate the quick lessons especially the Business Studies ones and for primary during supply teaching. Knowing my pupils through simple introduction at start of lessons definitely built confidence in both my pupils and me, their teacher - even for just a day. Thanks again

Milton Cesar Nieto Torres

Hi Rob, I remember I found you; by browsing the web sometime ago, I subscribed to your page but just until now I've had the time to read all the useful info you sent me for months and I'd like to thank you for the things you wrote because they're really clever and actually they come in handy. Thank you and keep on with the hard work you're doing it great so long

Diane Povey

I rang earlier today about the behaviour management resources I ordered. I just wanted to let you know I downloaded them and they look fantastic. I work in adult education, teaching child behaviour and child psychology classes, I also come across the odd unruly adult learner so these resources are perfect for me. All the very best

Terry Hudson, Regional Director 'Teach First' Sheffieled Hallam University

We were delighted to be able to get Rob Plevin in to work with our Teach First participants. He has an excellent reputation within the sector and he certainly didn't disappoint! From the start his dynamic approach captivated the group and they were enthralled throughout. It wasn't only the lively engaging style that won over the participants though. Rob was dealing with crucial issues relating to behaviour management that were high on their list of concerns about entering teaching in some of the most challenging schools in the country He covered these issues thoroughly without pulling any punches and still worked wonders in increasing the participants' confidence. We will be inviting Rob back on every possible occasion to work with all of our participants and trainees. I cannot recommend him highly enough. He is fantastic. If you want to watch someone in complete control of his topic area and audience then get him in. He makes a real difference.

Joanne Ng

Hi Rob, I have just purchased your book and had started reading. I can't stop thinking "this is exactly what I had been looking For."

Fran Wood

Thanks again for having the gumption and giving the time to such a fundamental and ever-present subject. I've been teaching over 25 years, and am always open to new approaches to old problems!

Rebecca Norris (Student teacher UK )

Hi rob. I am a PGCE student and have found your book very useful. I am teaching my first full lesson to the whole class next Thursday day and I am frantically trying to memorize all your tips and scripts! When I was reading your book I could actually SEE the methods working! I have recommended your book to all my fellow PGCEers! am very much looking forward to your emails.

Sue Roberts (Teacher, UK)

Sorry it's taken me so long to write - this is super stuff, thanks so much.

Shazia Kahn (Student Primary Teacher, West Yorkshire , UK )

Its brilliant! Simple and easy to follow. Thank you!

Jane Appleton (Student Teacher UK )

This book is full of common sense advice for both new and experienced teachers alike. It is easy to read and gives lots of ideas I like the common sense approach. I love the blockbusters game and am thinking up mathematical expressions for the gold run!! I like the inspirational posters I like the sheet that pupils fill in about their interests - it could be adapted for any age, although much of it is suitable for many ages altogether it's great - thank you!

Ajay Sharma

Dear Sir, I just got through your article titled "cLASSROOM MANAGEMENT TIPS " and was overwhelmed by the contents and their presentation. I am editor of the magazine "TEACHER'S NET" in India, and would request your permission to publish this one of your article so that our fraternity in India could also be benefited. With regards

Sian Kathryn Mapp (Student Teacher, UK )

I have been impressed by the wide range of tips and advice

M Patel (Student Teacher, UK )

I like the layout, how its broken down into small digestible, separate sections and how it "flows" really well. It's a much better read then the standard text books we are asked to read about classroom management, which get dull quickly. I know it will handy every day once I'm facing a class of 30 kids

E.F. (Teacher, UK )

Thanks, Rob - good to know that even as I approach retirement, there are still things I can do better!

Alex (Teacher, UK )

I have had a quick scan read. I realize that you are probably in secondary while I have just retrained and moved from FE to Primary. However, I think the same principles apply. Lots of what I have read resonates with me, like my decision to be 'myself' i.e. like to have fun, like the children and genuinely want them all to feel good in my class but at the same time I want the rules followed and my high expectations for them to be met. I so agree with you on the value of personal praise rather than an absent minded sticker.

T B (Teacher UK )

Thanks for helping me out of my mini crisis.

Kelly (Teacher UK

Thanks - the book is great and very well presented- some great tips. I see myself as quite good normally when it comes to control but there are a few I can never get through to. Will definitely try some of your ideas. Thanks for the extra freebies too.

Paula Rowlands (Teacher, UK )

What I have read is brilliant and has given me some practical ideas to try. It has also given me the confidence to go with a non-confrontational approach which is more me. Thanks again,

Lanyuy Collins (Teacher, US)

Hi. Thanks a lot for your very inspirational classroom management tips. In effect, they are just so great and edifying.

Robert Johnson M.Ed (Teacher, Ohio)

I have taught for 22 years in Ohio. I needed some new ideas and boy this been a godsend.

Anthony Collins Midlands, Staffordshire.

Hi Rob, I'm an NQT so I'm still learning the ropes. I've read through half of Magic Classroom Management so far and from what I've read it's excellent. A lot of the books you read talks a lot about theories and skills to develop over a long period of time...your book is simply a list of things you can try out the next day - excellent! I knew a lot of it already, but there's a few things I'm going to try out tomorrow.

Senora Vida F. Boyce Spanish Teacher

Dear Mr. Plevin, I am so grateful to you! Your tips have been the best! I would like to thank you for your kindness and the magic in you classroom tips. Sinceramente,

Angela

Thank you Rob for the FREE REPORT: COPING STRATEGIES FOR TEACHERS I am a Learning Support Unit Manager working with underachieving students, students who are challenging with social emotional and behavioural concerns; some also have psychiatric concerns and it is tough work. I am going home stressed almost every day and feeling as if I will end up having a short life span if I continue the job. I do enjoy my job and working with the kids (Secondary age 11-16) but I have to learn how to control loosing my temper over not managing a situation and learning to relax more. I want the kids to achieve their best and in me trying to help them achieve that I find it hard when they don't make the effort. I love the kids I work with, I do spoil them sometimes, I am also very firm with them, so they do hold a substantial amount of respect for me, especially because they know that I am always their for them. I don't ever take any days off from work because I can see that they rely on my support. I am even more grateful for the information, not only for myself but to help other teacher in the school as I am the LEad Behavioural specialist in the school and I can hopefully be able to share your excellent strategies with them. Thanks again and may speak to you again

Matthew Inniss, Paddington Academy

An excellent range of practical techniques to improve my classroom practice. Thank you

Daniel McConnell, Paddington Academy

I found the course enlightening, informative and thoroughly enjoyable. I plan to use some of the techniques from the course in my day to day work. Thanks Rob!

Nikki

This section has some brilliant ideas. I will put them into action this week and let you know if there's a significant difference. I already followed a few of your points as a matter of fact but this has definitely broadened my horizons even further! Looking forward to the next installment.

Lilac

Dear Rob Plevin: Thank you so much for sending me the teaching tips. I do enjoy reading the tips which helps me a lot in my classroom. I am an ESL teacher in China. Now I am teaching in a key school in our province. Still, there are some students here you have to choose a right way to communicate with. And with the help of your book, I do find some effective way to manage my classroom. Thanks you again.

Gail Fulford,Ed.S. Atlanta Training & Resource Co.

Rob, I have read more of your book this morning and really like it. You are a person who has definitely experienced the "difficult to teach" child. Only someone who has been there knows that what you are saying is "nuts and bolts" and right on target. I am going to do three seminars next week, one in Austin, Texas, Houston, Texas and San Antonio, Texas. I have decided to promote your book and will give them your email address and information about the book basically. I do a section in the seminar on Behavior and classroom management and I will discuss your book and some of your main points then. I do know that the company I work for will allow me to sell your book during the seminar, but I dont think I can get your books there in time for this next session which is Monday, November 13th. I am doing another set of seminars at the end of November, but I think the easiest thing to do is to let teachers know where to get the book. Is it at Amazon.com? or in the stores like Barnes and Noble? or can they purchase it directly from you? How much is it? I am excited about your book. Glad I found it!

Byron

Hi Rob, Thanks for responding so very quickly. i am impressed and i appreciate your sensitivity to your audience-wow. i will try it, thank you

Aster

Dear Mr Plevin, Every tips u sent is very pratical and usable. Thanks for everything, more power to u. And God will always Bless u all the way. Sincerly yours,

Iza Mrochen

Hi Rob, I would like to thank you very much for your help. This is my frist year when I work at university as a lecturer so your tips appear to be very useful.I look forward to hearing from you

Donnelda Dublin, Paddington Academy

Interactive sessions that use multiple types of media and appealed to different learning styles was very useful. Role plays were great as well. Finally I really learned a lot by the musical chair style sharing of ideas and experiences. Great training and resources

Ivana Koralek, Paddington Academy

After 15 years of teaching this was the most honest look at behaviour and a comprehensive scale to work from.

Molly Morris, Paddington Academy

I have gained sound advice from the course and implemented strategies which have helped promote more positive behaviour in my lessons.

Janyne Brand. Geraldton, West Australia

Rob, I downloaded your classroom management book, a couple of days ago. Yes, you're right. The buck stops with me and it is the way I react to any given situation that needs reflection and change. It's also strange, because there's not a great deal that you speak about in your main book or your free ebook that I haven't already come across (or indeed, used). However, your language is very practical and non-threatening, and I FEEL included, like, "I can do this. It makes sense." rather than, "Oh, that's what I need to do or should be doing." Excuse my grammar. I guess what I'm trying to convey is that your words make me FEEL empowered to be a postitive, enhtusiastic, fully functional professional teacher who cares about her students. I recognise that this may have as much to do with where I'm at both professionally and emotionally at this point in time, but nevertheless, I thank you. Thanks again,

Anju

Dear Rob, The more I read about the classroom tips you have sent me, the more i realize that some of your tips like "class slogan" and also that of getting the pupils in a good mood before a lesson are what I've unconsciously implimented so far.I am considered a very unconventional teacher in my school { E& E world school} at Ahmedabad,India. But, your helpful tips have infused a newfound confidence in me and I thank you once again. i will keep you posted. Kind regards

Joseph Sandoval.

Hi Rob, I am getting alot from what you are sending me and it has been helpful thus far. I am in the process of obtaing your book. I had made a request for a purchase through the school I am currently working at. Hopefully they will get the book for me but if not then I am planning on getting it myself. Once again, thank you much. Keep the helpful resources coming, it's been put to good use.

Connie

Hi Rob, Thanks for the quick reply. I purchased Magic Classroom Management, but if you have other material that might be useful for supply teaching, I'd love to see it. I use humour a lot too - and often respond to some behaviours with a smile that takes away tension and is often a 'surprise' to students who are pushing buttons to see what you'll do. My approach is preventive rather that reactive. The more negative behaviour I can avoid the more positive teaching I can achieve. I also take the approach that whatever class I am teaching, at that time, it's "my" class. For however short a time, this confident approach lets me connect with students. I've read through Magic Classroom Management and have adapted some of your ideas. Although I usually do daily supply, I am currently doing a long term assignment (five weeks) teaching grade 7 & 8 English, Math, and History - so I'll be able to use more of your suggestions. I look forward to the teaching tips. Thanks for taking the time to reply to my e-mail.

Dejan

Dear sir, Thank for your support, now i am trying to practice your tip in my classroom, and i found the amazing change of behavior my student. I hope you always give me with the order tip so i can teaching with the modren metode Sincerely

Lesleyanne

Hi Rob I have been reading through your material and there has been some really valuable stuff in it, thanks. I am making a big impression with the Headmaster at the moment as he is interested in how i am managing my class and seems to be very impressed. Thank you

Neena

Hi Rob Thanks for sharing the messages with me. I am exchanging these great ideas with my staff members at school. I want to know, if you have great strategies on topic LEADERSHIP. If yes, please send them to me too.I will definitely input my thoughts. Thanks again.

Michelle

Mr. Plevin, Thank you, first of all for taking the time and energy to create such a much needed piece of work. Everyday practical strategies that can be used in the classroom. I am looking forward to reading part 2 of dealing with classroom behavior. This is exactly what I need! Thank you,

Emma

Hi Rob Just to let you know that I am enjoying your tips for behaviour management. As a casual teacher (I think that you call them supply teachers in the US) I find classroom management a challenge. I was wondering whether you have any tips that particalarly pertain to casual teachers, who come into a classroom when the regular teacher is sick or at a course. I love all your ideas and can see how I can implement some of them, Thanks again for your words of wisdom!

Marie

Hi Rob I found you site when i was in the depths of despair with my class, this is the second year running I have had them (it seemed like the lesser of 2 evils at the time when i was given the choice - better the devil you know... and all that) and I felt like I had exhausted my entire behaviour management repertoire and they had seen it all before. I'm feeling a bit better about things now, in no small part because of your fab emails. They are little pick me ups with really useful ideas that I can put into practise (practice?) immediately with little preparation & resources needed. A lot of the time I read them and think, well I already know that, but when I think about it I realise that I've let it slip or have forgotten to stay on top of it. So thanks for being a mine of useful information, and a non-judgemental source of advice. Keep up the great work! Thanks again

Connie

Dear Rob, Thank you for the Bonus Report which addresses many problems I have as a substitute. I think your guides were recommended on the home page of the district in which I work--PUSD or Pasadena in California. I'm almost certain to buy the book now.

Dear Rob: Thanks for your Magic Classroom Management Tips. I've learnt a lot from you and now I am running my Primary ESL Teacher's Blog. I hope I can have the permission to post your tips on my blog. Thanks lot. Today 's our Chinese Lunar Year--the Year of the Pig. Wish you a happy new year of 2007.

Hello Rob, These are great thank you. Due to the amount of work I have doing my student teaching placement, I have printed your emails for future readings... well I am reading them one or two per evening and they are GREAT. Yes, a lot of common sense and stuff I want to do anyway, but there are a lot of ideas that I cannot wait to try. They are motivating me - thank you. Student teaching is tougher than I thought but as the days go on... and I load up on information and get resources (like you) it makes me feel better and believe that I CAN do this. THANK YOU

Rob Sorry, I seem to have subscribed twice, somehow. I was trying to get to the 'Coping strategies' tips, but ended up going round in circles. I have read your other material and am very impressed not least because at last someone is agreeing with my golden rule. 'Never talk over the top of noise.' I've been teaching for 25 years and it's been an invaluable personal rule for all age groups including A level. The reason I signed on to your site is that I have been doing some twilight 'Raising Attainment' classes at the local comprehensive (I teach part time in a sixth form college) and I was waiting on the landing outside the classroom of a poor NQT who was fighting a losing battle with her Y9 class at the end of the day. When the bell went and she came to meet me the first thing she did was apologise for her shouting and their behaviour etc... I did feel some sympathy for her and remembered those early years of my career when I'd had difficult classes. So, to cut a long story short, I thought I'd have a look at what was available nowadays to help with classroom management and came across your site the details of which I will pass on to her on Wednesday. (I was quite a fan of The Craft of the Classroom' by Michael Marland but as that was in 1976, was probably a bit dated!!!) I must say I felt I was reading the thoughts of a soul-mate in all you've said, and when I've been involved in in-house staff development with young staff, I have found myself in complete agreement with your ideas about being in charge of creating the right atmosphere in your own classroom; setting your standards and above all being consistent in the application of them. I think this is also true when there are no behaviour problems because you can then concentrate on establishing the quality of the work you want them to produce... Anyway, I could go on all night.... Thank you for your emails I am interested to see the others... Thank you.

Dear Rob; Thank you very much for all the information that you´ve been sending me and I really appreciate that you keep doing so. I´ve been reading most of it and I find it very useful but I want to go through it more deeply again. My best regards.

Mr S

Hey Rob, I am getting a lot from what you are sending me and I am going to share it with my fellow workers. It seems like the school I am at really does need this information. I do have questions about the consequences. What are some good consequences that I could establish as far as "breaking a rule" is concerned? Also steps on how to guide/show students on what will happen if they do break a rule. Like, the frist offense, second etc... Is there a web site that you could share with me and get some ideas? Thanks for everything thus far. Keep the info coming.

Sandra H.

I have enjoyed every one of your classroom managent tips. So far I have used some and other information that I obtain from seminars of management students with behavioral issues as well as ADHD and ADD audience. I too spend more time dealing with issues and disruptions and slow progress from students, that I am a little discourage. After 8 year of teaching this population I have found that the amount of effort to stear students in the correct way has been a challenging and difficult one. Although, I continue to truck on with all my strength. I find your information that you have provided has helped me to become more accepting and to gain control over the things I can and worry less with those I cannot change. Thank you for your guidenance and encouraging methods to assist me in managing a very little to no interrupted learning processes. Thanks, so much Mr. Plevin, I'm sure all these ideas will make reflect on my daily teaching work. I'ii be in touch.

Dear Mr. Plevin, Thank you so much for the classroom managment mini-course. Although I have taught for over thirty years, the last twenty of which were at the post-secondary level, I thought I knew teaching. However, in getting back to teaching high school, I was not prepared for the changes that have taken place. I have already implemented several of the techniques outlined in your mini-course and am seeing improvements, not only in the students of my classes, but also in myself as a teaching professional. Sincerely,

Pascal

Hi Rob, Just a few words of thanks for your tips. I am finding them very effective with some of my students. Sorry I have not been able to get back to you straight away but once again thank you.
